Hi all!

I hope you all have sunshine where you are because I have and it's glorious!

Just updating to share these samples with you, both of which are for sale a stupid low prices because I have an exceptionally large credit card bill this month and my lovely other half wants to buy a house. Why now? No one knows. All I know is I have to start saving because furniture (amongst other things) is expensive!!

Info under here :)Collapse )
Thanks for looking :)
1-4-2010 - Wallpaper
I took a trip to the DIY stores local to me yesterday to pick up some wood and hardboard for this frame/background I'm making for the mannequins. I was intending to paper it in a modern floral print wallpaper.

But how am I supposed to choose just one?!

I ended up taking "samples" of around 6 papers, mainly because my OH and I are looking for a house and it will more than likely need decorating.... *any excuse*

I didn't think choosing wallpaper would be this hard. It's going to be a long haul with the new house. When we finally find one.
I was given three bust form mannequins on Thursday night by a friend at work. They are all in good condition, came on a small wooden stand and are just the right shape for a corset. So you can imagine how chuffed I am!

After battling to get them home and leaving them to settle in, I finally decided to recover them. Some to have a touch of damage around the necks and need re-filling underneath with some funky expanding foam, but all in all they are in great condition.

So, Thursday will be a trip into town to buy foam and some DIY bits and pieces for a new background to be made! One lovely mannequin has already been recovered because I was too excited to wait. Bright pink... Anyone who knows me knows that the colour pink and I do not get on... but it looks quite retro so I'll leave it be. I'm considering covering the matching bust in pink too and the one that is slightly different in black.

These Mannequins need names! Any suggestions?
I'm in the midst of designing a small range of corsets for Spring/Summer 2010 and so far I am loving the colour palettes that have been forecasted.

I'm seriously considering muted colours like soft pinks, blues and peaches. They are incredibly feminine colours and I feel they would be perfect for a small range of complementing corsets. I feel the trick with these colours would be to not go overboard with the embellishments. So I will be keeping them clean and simple whilst keeping to a forecasted theme "Victorian Revival".

I can't wait to get started.
I love it when my clients give me testimonials. I enjoy sewing so much, particularly corsets, but it always makes me feel incredibly special to be able to work with such lovely people all around the world.

Kristen came to me in September wanting the Modern Overbust in a shade of very rich purple. I was so nervous about the colour as it was so incredibly difficult to describe, shining all different colours in different lights, purple, black, green and blue! That's the thing with dupion silk. You can never pin it down to one colour for very long!

Here is what Kristen had to say:

"I recently commissioned a corset from Blue Pumpkin Corsetry, and let me just say the finished product far exceeded my expectations. After shopping all over for a special corset to wear to a Masquerade Ball, I found Eleanor's site on Etsy and fell in love with the modern overbust with a lace overlay. Knowing I specifically wanted it in a shade of purple, Eleanor kindly worked with me back and forth, patiently helping me to settle on a silk without ever seeing the color in person. She finished the corset in excellent time and it shipped with no difficulties all the way to me in the United States. The color turned out to be absolutely fabulous and the corset itself fits like a glove. Every time I look at it I smile – it's like my dream corset. Thank you for such a beautiful piece!"

It was a pleasure and I hope to work with you again in the future!
13-11-2009 - Testimonials
"As the proud owner of two [Blue Pumpkin] Corsets, these are my thoughts;

The first corset was a commission, a tartan corset in my fiancé’s family tartan. It will be worn on my wedding day next year. Let's just say... I am thrilled! It is unique, beautifully made and fits perfectly - all with only measurements emailed to Eleanor. My corset is totally unique, beautiful and the sewing is lovely - it will stand up to an energetic wedding day, and many more parties to come.

The second was a lucky find from the [Blue Pumpkin] sale rack, again beautiful crafting that crosses the line into art. The fabric is top quality and the design different to anything I've seen before.

Blue Pumpkin Corsets are truly the epitome of feminine style - treat yourself now!"
-Carrie had a custom Midbust and a sample Regular Underbust in Gold Brocade

"I recently purchased a corset from Blue Pumpkin Corsetry and found the experience most pleasant from beginning to end. It was Eleanor's website that first caught my attention, with lots of beautiful photographs plus an insight into her work and business. The fact that Eleanor designs and also makes her wonderful creations by hand was another factor in my decision to order from her. I'd never owned a corset before and Eleanor was extremely helpful, offering advice on the type of fabric and the over-all look I wanted to achieve. This personal touch and attention to detail is what makes Blue Pumpkin Corsetry so special. I was completely at ease throughout the whole process. My corset fits perfectly and considering the amount of work put in to the finished garment, arrived in super-quick time. My corset was incredibly good value especially considering the fabric used was of the highest quality. I highly recommend Blue Pumpkin Corsetry. As mentioned, Eleanor's attention to detail, not only in her dress-making skills, but also her personal touch with her clientele, is second-to-none. She is a credit to herself and the dressmaking world! Thank you!"
-Louise had a standard Midbust in black.

"I can’t say enough about Eleanor and her work. The corset she crafted for me fits like a glove and just makes me feel beautiful. The craftsmanship is excellent and the amount of attention she paid to what I wanted in the design process was unprecedented. I was involved in every decision during the process from design elements to fabric to lace.

The fit impressed me immensely as I am not the easiest body to fit correctly even when I am there to stand for a fitting. The fact that I was able to have the corset fit perfectly straight out of the mail was exhilarating for me.

Eleanor was always professional and always made sure that I was confident in my choices before proceeding with any construction. She kept in touch throughout the process making sure that I was updated with the process of my corset.

I would without reserve or hesitation recommend Eleanor to anyone looking for a custom corset. In fact as soon as I am able I will approach her for another work of art."
-Rebecca had a custom Midbust in a wonderful Oban Tweed.

"I'm the proud owner of a beautiful Blue Pumpkin corset, which I love. I love the look of corsets but I'm not very keen on wearing them as I've always found they are so uncomfortable but my Blue Pumpkin corset is so well made I can wear it all day. It's so comfortable and fits perfectly and most of all looks good on! I feel so feminine in it! Eleanor uses the very best fabrics and obviously puts alot of work into her corsets as they are so well made which shows straight away. I would definately buy from her again!!"
-Heather had a standard Midbust in white.

"I would like to say that the quality of both the corset and service that I have received has been truly outstanding. I cannot believe that just from a few guidelines Eleanor has been able to produce such a beautifully constructed garment.

Many thanks Eleanor. I will be in touch for some more of the same!"

-Kristen (Nov '09) had a custom Modern Overbust in a glorious shade of purple raw silk.

Blue Pumpkin Corsets are made as follows:

  • A pattern is cut using my favouritest-paper-evah-that-took-aaaages-to-find. I love it.
  • The cloth is cut;
    • A single layer of satin or brocade coutil or;
    • A lining of coutil, a middle layer of canvas interlining and a silk fashion layer (or whatever your chosen fashion fabric is).
  • The fashion layer is interfaced for strength.
  • All of these pieces are sewn together and boning channels determined.
  • A waist tape is sewn in.
  • The corset (which is now a shell) is then boned with spiral steel boning and flat steel at the centre front and centre back.
  • The seams are hand stitched together through all layers, to help prevent unwanted movement.
  • The binding is attached and hand finished on the inside for neatness, strength and all round gloriousness.
  • The two part grommets are inserted and corsetry laces provided.

The average time it takes to make a Blue Pumpkin Corset ranges from 4 hours to 40 hours.

Blue Pumpkin Corsets are never made with plastic boning or any other sub-standard material.

Customer satisfaction is our biggest priority after the quality of the corsets. So you will always receive a friendly and prompt response.
